See the Trailer for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

After seeing the first look at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness following Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel fans got a second trailer during Superbowl LVI. The sequel to Marvel’s Doctor Strange is set to be the next Marvel film being released this year.

In the first look, we saw Benedict Cumberbatch as his evil alter-ego. The same was also teased in Marvel’s animated series What If…? In this trailer, we also got to see Elizabeth Olsen play both sides of her character Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch. This is hopefully going to be a continuation of the character work we saw in her flagship series WandaVision. Wanda will obviously still be processing her grief and loss, and it will be interesting to Olsen really lean into portraying the two parts of her character that make her whole.

The internet is abuzz with the fact that we just might have heard the voice of Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X. We know from Spider-Man: No Way Home that it is now canon that other Marvel properties outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can make their way into the franchise. This would be such an intriguing choice for Marvel to incorporate Stewart’s Professor X, and could potentially be the venue by which the X-Men are officially made a part of the MCU. The X-Men are some of Marvel’s most popular characters, and there are so many stories to be told through them.

America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) is here as well! In the official description, the character is described as a teenager with the ability to travel between the dimensions. Clearly, she’ll be an integral part of this story and hopefully another member of what could very well be the Young Avengers eventually. Hopefully, they feature this character prominently, as she clearly has so much potential.

Characters from previous Marvel instalments also seem to be making a return. In the first trailer, we saw Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) getting married. This time, it’s clear something is interrupting her wedding day, and honestly she doesn’t deserve it after everything she’s been through. Wong (Benedict Wong) is delivering his classic warnings to Doctor Strange, which are likely to be ignored if history is anything to go by. Finally, Chiwetel Ejiofor is reprising his role as Mordo, the man who thought too many sorcerers inhabited the Earth. It’s curious to think what his view will be on this multiverse, where countless sorcerers can no doubt be found.

One of the aspects of the first Doctor Strange movie that stood out was the incredible use of computer effects. Even in this brief trailer, it seems that we will get more of the same. The striking cubic manipulation to the colour schemes proves that Marvel has continued to up their effects game. Hopefully, it won’t interfere with a good and complete story.

The latest trailer for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness gave us everything that we wanted as we look forward to Marvel’s next massive movie release. Fans were promised a horror movie, and from the trailer there is absolutely that potential. Marvel would do well to lean into that concept, since this is clearly a story that could support it. Doctor Strange has been set up as the one to take over leadership of the Avengers going forward. This movie will be yet another opportunity for his character to prove that he is worthy.
