This week’s episode of The Good Doctor looks like it may get close to the realm of science-fiction.
Shaun (Freddie Highmore) looks like he relishes the opportunity to treat a teenage patient with the apparent goal of turning himself into some kind of cyborg. The patient’s mother explicitly tells the doctors not to encourage her son’s biohacking. It’s clear Shaun remains impressed with the patient’s achievements.
This is such a fascinating subject to bring up in a medical drama. As medical technology continues to evolve, there will be continued discussions about the ethics of how and when to use these innovations.
It wouldn’t be The Good Doctor without a spotlight on relationships, and this episode is going to give viewers this in spades. The doctors at St. Bonaventure Hospital have always been romantics.
Episode Description: While Drs. Lim, Murphy and Wolke help a teenage “biohacker” whose self- experiments begin to compromise his health, Drs. Morgan, Park, Jordan and Glassman treat a young woman who wants a controversial surgery to treat her depression and chronic pain. Additionally, Dr. Reznick looks to take the next step in her relationship with Dr. Park.
