Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures announced that filming has concluded on an upcoming movie based on the iconic Spirit Halloween seasonal pop-up store franchise.
The film, like the stores, will be called ‘Spirit Halloween’. The upcoming project is set to star the iconic Christopher Lloyd, and Rachael Leigh Cook of Hallmark fame.
The movie will tell the story of middle-schoolers who feel they have outgrown trick-or-treating, and perhaps Halloween as a whole. When the friends find a Spirit Halloween store in an abandoned strip mall, they spend the night on a dare. Of course, they find it haunted by an angry spirit. Chaos is sure to ensue.
Of the upcoming movie, Strike Studios President Noor Ahmed said, “One of the reasons I immediately connected with the script is it is very much inspired by some of my favorite kid adventure films growing up from “The Goonies,” “Gremlins,” “Monster Squad” and so many great films made by Amblin Entertainment”.

Spirit Halloween has become something of a cultural phenomenon over the years. Known for taking up residents in large, empty buildings, they’ve become a staple all over North America. It has become a dark joke that Spirit Halloween is the harbinger of death and destruction among business storefronts.
It’s an interesting choice to have the movie centre around children. Although this is certainly the target audience for the beloved Halloween pop-up, many adults get into shenanigans when the air turns cool and pumpkin spice lattes begin to appear. It will be interesting to see this story from childrens’ perspectives.
Spirit Halloween has finished principle photography. It is set to be released in October of this year, just in time for the Halloween season. There is currently no information available about a specific release date.
With around 1,400 stores open across the United States and Canada for the Halloween season, Spirit Halloween is the largest Halloween store franchise in North America.
