#TIFF22: What We Know So Far

It may still be summer, but the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival is right around the corner. September gets ever closer, and TIFF is always a highlight of the Festival circuit. At Canada’s top movie celebration, big stars and films in awards contention are always in order. Let’s break down the information about this year’s Festival that we know to date!

My Policeman World Premiere:

Based on the book of the same name by Bethan Roberts, My Policeman is set to have it’s world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, and David Dawson. The 1950s LGBTQ+ period piece tells a tragic love-story that spans several decades. Though guests haven’t been officially confirmed for this year’s Festival, it’s possible Harry Styles fans in Toronto will be treated to an in-person appearance by the prolific popstar. My Policeman is coming to Prime Video November 2, 2022.

Steven Spielberg to Make TIFF Debut:

It may seem strange that a director as prolific as Steven Spielberg has never attended the Toronto Film Festival. Yet, this remains the case. Happily, this is set to change at this year’s Festival, when Spielberg presents his latest work, The Fablemans. The movie is a semi-autobiographical look at Spielberg’s life. Considering the subject matter and the filmmaker behind the project, it would hardly be surprising if this movie was at least considered come awards season.

One highlight of this year’s Festival is sure to be the follow up to Rian Johnson’s whodunit, Knives Out. Glass Onion will follow Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc as he travels to Greece for a new mystery to solve. The movie also stars Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set to stream on Netflix later this year.

While the full line-up will not be released until August, it’s also been confirmed that Catherine Called Birdy and Viola Davis’s The Woman King will be premiering at this year’s Festival.

The 2022 Toronto International Film Festival is scheduled to run September 8-18, 2022.
