‘Mythic Quest’ Companion Series ‘Mere Mortals’ Ordered by Apple

The Mythic Quest universe is expanding, with Apple ordering a new series based on the workplace comedy. Variety exclusively reported the news regarding this new series coming from Apple.

TVLine reported that Mere Mortals will not be considered a Mythic Quest spin-off. Rather, the upcoming series will focus on expanding the main MQ universe by adding new characters and stories.

Mere Mortals will be helmed by Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. Burch has written several Mythic Quest episodes, and stars as former video game tester Rachel.

Burch’s character Rachel is no longer working as a game tester. She is currently in school to further her studies. She has recently gotten MQ to add cryptocurrency to their interface as a way for the company to make additional revenue from the game.

Burch’s character is in a relationship with fellow former game tester Dana, played by Imani Hakim. At the time of writing, Mythic Quest is currently in its third season and has already been renewed for Season 4

The format of Mere Mortals will apparently follow the likes of one-off Mythic Quest episodes, like “A Dark Quiet Death”, “Backstory!”, “Everlight”, and “Sarian”. This would be a departure from Mythic Quest’s typical serialized format.

The one-off episodes of Mythic Quest focus on the backstory of individual characters, or, in the case of “A Dark Quiet Death”, other game developers who inhabited the MQ offices before the game was created.

Mere Mortals will run for eight episodes during its inaugural season. A premiere date has not yet been released. There is also no confirmation if others associated with Mythic Quest will be a part of this new series.

The one-off episodes of Mythic Quest focus on the backstory of individual characters, or, in the case of “A Dark Quiet Death”, other game developers who inhabited the MQ building before the game was created.

Mythic Quest creators Megan Ganz, Rob McElhenney, and Charlie Day will serve as executive producers for the upcoming expansion series.

The Mere Mortals logline reads, “Mere Mortals” will “explore the lives of employees, players, and fans who are impacted by the game” around which Mythic Quest revolves.
