Apple confirms that Israeli thriller Tehran will be returning for a third season. The second season finale aired in June 2022.
Deadline reported the news of the series renewal. Variety also had details of Apple’s renewal of the Israeli spy thriller. The series renewal is not a surprise, given its critical and commercial success.
The series stars Niv Sultan, Shaun Toub, and Shila Ommi among others. Season 2 also featured award-winning actress Glenn Close. Sultan, Toub, and Ommi are all set to return for Season 3.

Emmy nominee Hugh Laurie, of House notoriety, is set to join Tehran’s third season. Laurie will play a new character named Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector. This would continue the series’ theme of investigating nuclear power acquisition by the Iranian state.
Sasson Gabai, Bahar Pars and Phoenix Raei are also set to be new additions to Tehran’s third season. There is no information available regarding their respective roles in the series.
Tehran follows Tamar, a Mossad agent undercover in Tehran. She uses her skills as a hacker to infiltrate Iran’s power grid. Her re-connection with her Iranian family ends in heartbreaking tragedy.

Season 2 ended with Sultan’s protagonist, Tamar, going rogue from the Mossad. She is left in the middle of Iran, with no back-up, and no one she can trust. This puts her character at a crossroads. Her character arc in Season 3 will focus on her re-establishing her relationship with the Mossad if she is to survive.
There is no word yet on the series’ production schedule, nor when fans can expect the new season to be released. The series premiered in June 2020.
Tehran is created by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden and Maor Kohn, and directed by co-creator Daniel Syrkin.
Tehran Season 1 and 2 is available to stream on Apple TV+.
