Ghosts Season 3 Episode 7 Review: “The Polterguest”

Ghosts Season 3 Episode 7, “The Polterguest,”  puts the series back on track with love stories everywhere. As Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) and Nigel’s (John Hartman) wedding approaches, it makes sense that all of Woodstone would be in the mood for love. In addition to giving several ghosts a chance at love, this episode also furthers the ghostly lore that surrounds Woodstone. There are so many future stories that could be explored based on this story.

It makes sense to begin with Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and her chance at romance. She has always been one of Woodstone’s most dynamic ghosts. This character has always had a lot of love to give. Saul (Lamorne Morris) is the perfect object for Alberta’s affections. Watching Alberta accept love and then recognize her own needs is deeply endearing. Thankfully, she’s able to set boundaries before becoming unnecessarily entangled with a poltergeist for longer than she needs to.

Relatedly, Saul’s presence adds some intriguing elements of ghostly lore to this story. This raises some exciting possibilities about future ghostly guests that could pass through Woodstone. Other living guests could come accompanied by a poltergeist. Additionally, it feels appropriate to ask, could a Woodstone ghost attach themselves to certain people if conditions were right? The possibilities feel endless. Hopefully, Saul will not be the first poltergeist to cross Woodstone’s threshold.

Ghosts Season 3 Episode 7, “The Polterguest,” also sets the stage for Isaac and Nigel’s upcoming wedding. Watching two Revolutionary War-era ghosts experience bachelor parties is actually quite charming. This storyline is another terrific example of how this show integrates ghosts from historical eras into the modern world. Seeing a ritual like a bachelor party through the eyes of historical ghosts makes it clear what a silly, if enjoyable, tradition.

In addition to being quite funny to watch, each respective bachelor party examines a facet of this relationship. It is sweet watching Isaac be jealous of Nigel. It is also a testament to Nigel’s character to see how far he has come in terms of having moved on from his ex. On Isaac’s part, it’s sweet to see him acknowledge everything that he loves about Nigel in spite of the distractions from an Australian stripper.

Finally, this entire episode is yet another example of Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) being a lovable support act while Sam (Rose McIver) manages the ghostly chaos. Seeing them work together like this further proves that they remain and have always been a couple worth cheering for. These kind of episodes showcase their strengths as they manage their own lives and those of their ghostly family.

Ghosts is back on track, and not a moment too soon. With a shortened season, every moment counts. There’s a lot of excitement building up for the upcoming wedding. The ghosts are left with a lot of possibilities for the future, including meeting new poltergeists attached to livings. As the final episodes of the season approach, there is a lot to hope for as these characters continue to live their best afterlives.

Ghosts airs at 7:30/6:30c on CBS.
